"MAY the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him..."

We can't believe that May is already upon us! We have so much to share with you all about how the Lord has been working here in San Salvador.

Our site

Our first team of the season arrived on May 3rd. We are now hosting 8 students from Simpson University for three weeks, and what a blessing them have been to our site and our teens! These students are now teaching our math, art and english classes as well as leading our daily devotionals. The teens love meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones. It's amazing to see how God works across language barriers! Last weekend, the team ventured out of the city to the Santa Ana Volcano, which they gladly climbed, despite the heat and the humidity.

We are currently working on registering our ministry as a youth development program with the National Council for Childhood and Adolescence (CONNA). El Salvador has various laws that protect minors and we are hoping to do everything we can to keep our teens and staff safe and prevent any legal problems that may arise. We hope to let you know soon when we are officially and legally registered!

Our site coordinator, Tony Escalante, will soon be visiting New City Church in Lexington, Kentucky for a week. He hopes to strengthen our partnership with this church and share about opportunities to partner with La Fuente FC, our boys' soccer ministry. He departs on Monday, May 14th.

Finally, we give thanks to the Lord for the laborers He is providing! We have just learned of a team that would like to come serve at the end of this year, as well as some teams that are inquiring about dates for next year. We can't wait to make these connections with God's people!

La Fuente

Our biggest announcement from La Fuente is that we have added Friday night youth group. We still felt very compelled to invest more in the spiritual life of our teens, and we wanted to provide an opportunity for teens outside of our program to hear the Gospel. This last Friday, we shared in a time of worship led by Tony, and heard a special message from Karlos Valle entitled "I am not a mistake." Several teens decided to give their lives to Christ and we prayed with and for them, and rejoiced along with all the heavens over pupusas and hot chocolate! All glory to God!! You are invited to join us for our next youth group via Facebook live. We will be talking to some of our staff and with our teens before settling in for a time of worship. The broadcast will be this Friday, May 11th at 5:45 Mountain Standard Time on our Facebook page, and will be available to watch afterwards, even if you miss us live. We hope to see you there!

Because youth group is on Fridays, we have moved our small group "debrief" time to Thursdays. We have watched in awe how the Lord is working in the hearts of our teens through this weekly time. They are opening up to us, confiding in us and learning lots of wisdom from the Proverbs. We are so grateful for this time that we get to pray with them, and we pray that the Lord would continue to bear fruit through this part of our ministry.

Yesterday, May 10th was Mother's Day in El Salvador. Our teens were able to celebrate their dear mothers by gifting them homemade cards and flowers. We thank the Lord for all these mothers, for their love and care of our teens.

Finally, we are looking for a new math teacher for La Fuente. Please join us in prayer for an individual who can tutor our teens in their math homework. We know the Lord will provide!

La Fuente FC

Our boys soccer team will be starting a new tournament this coming Tuesday in partnership with the police department. Our guys have been working very hard in practice and are looking forward to this new season of playing together! Please pray for a good season.

Mavericks Flag Football

Our girls flag football team have their first game of their tournament next Sunday. Everyone is excited to start playing and we are excited to have our team from Simpson cheering us on. Please pray for continued growth in our girls and safety during our games and practices.

Interns

Our team is growing! One intern, Nate Wolf, is arriving in less than a week, and he will be here for six weeks. Another intern, Brook Thorson, is arriving on June 1st and will serve here for one year. We are so excited to meet these brothers and sisters in Christ and we pray that the Spirit would fill them with strength and peace for their imminent arrival.

Please join us in prayer for:

  • Tony on his trip to Kentucky. Please pray for protection during his journey and that God would give him the right words to share about our ministry. We also ask the Lord for divine appointments and connections during this time.
  • La Fuente. We know the Lord is at work here and we ask Him to continue to pour out His Spirit on our teens and staff, that they might continue to encounter the Lord and choose to follow Him. Please also pray for the safety of our teens in their homes, and for their families.
  • Our upcoming team season. Our teams will be working either here at Wired or with other churches. We pray for impact, efficiency and effectiveness in the work they'll be doing and that the will of the Lord would be done here in El Salvador. Please also pray that God would be granting discernment and wisdom to teams who are inquiring about coming to work with us.
  • Our new interns. Pray for their safe arrival, and for their transitions into this culture, ministry and weather. We thank God for their lives and for their hearts to serve.
  • Health for everyone in the summer. Because we are in El Salvador and anything can happen, please pray for the health and safety of all of our teams, interns and staff members as we enter into our busy group season.
  • Partners with our intern house project. We are still working on launching our fundraising campaign and we are looking forward to see how the Lord provides for the financial needs of this site.
  • Finally, we humbly ask you to pray for Kevin Cabrera (former director of La Fuente) and Laura Rodriguez (one of our residents), who have just entered into a new relationship. We want to put them both in God's hands and we pray that He would use this relationship for His Kingdom.

We have been blown away by how the Lord has showed up in this last month as we've turned to Him for guidance and provision. As Romans 15:13 tells us, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." We certainly are filled with joy, and we thank you all for your prayers and support. It is with joy that we continue to walk forward, pursuing Christ and His Kingdom. May you find that joy in your lives as well!

In Him,

Envision El Salvador
